When is a weekend not a weekend?

When you go to Kyneton and the central Victorian Goldfields area for a 3-day mini break during the week. Lori and Markus joined us for a foodie extravaganza in Kyneton as well as a regional sightseeing tour - at least of the various antique, charity and junk shops that were open in all of the towns we visited including Castlemaine (the motherlode with at least 7 antique shops), Malmsbury, Maldon, Newstead, Elphinstone, Trentham and Woodend, amonsgt others.

Lori and Markus came over to our place on Sun 27th in the evening to have a mini celebration for Mark's birthday as well as watch Heston's Feast on SBS. A truly unique cooking show by the internationally recognised chef Heston Blumenthal (famous for nose to tail eating). Unfortunately this episode, the Christmas Feast, probably wasn't his best of the four or five we'd seen to-date.

Setting off in the Flexicar about 10.45am Monday 28th, we reached Woodend easily by about noon after meandering through a few country towns. We explored the garden shop that Lori was keen on and they nearly engaged my negotation services to buy a gorgeous bronze fire pit / lily bath. We met up with Kylie & Jeremy at Cafe Colenso for a coffee and friande before heading off to Trentham. Starving by 2.45pm, we ordered some trendy fish & chips to share at a lovely hotel (possibly ther Cosmopolitan) which had a small but beautifully manicured garden. Hitting the road again, we reached Kyneton about 5.30pm after stopping at a few other places and antique shops on the way.

On Tues 29th, we hit the road to Castlemaine et al and managed to spend a grand total of $1 on an old telephone pole insulator for mark's burgeoning collection and Lori spent about $7 on a collection of sevens for her collection. We saw some lovely and quite hideous ornaments, small and large pieces of furtniture and garden elements, but for various reasons, didn't purchase anything else.

On Wed 30th we actually looked around Kyneton itself and discovered that Lori's friends who moved there about 5yrs ago, actually owned and ran Monsieur Pierre (http://www.whoispierre.com.au/). After exploring all of the available shops in town, we had a long lunch and then eventually headed home about 4pm.
