Well we finally arrived in Delhi last night after months of thinking about the trip, planning for it and wondering how we'd cope with it. Last night was excruciatingly hot and there was lots of pollution after the 14hr travel. We arrived in the hotel after a crazy taxi ride and were glad we had been met at the airport. This morning we explored our immediate surrounds in New Delhi and were accosted not 6 seconds after leaving the hotel by the first of at least 1000 tuk tuk drivers who approached us on the trip. The Indian's couldn't understand the concept of actually walking around and seeing the place on foot. After only 25 mins of walking, we cottoned onto why - it's just so hot! - but we persisted. We were told by the Intrepid people to have lunch before meeting at 1pm for our Welcome Speech as we'd be heading off from there. Anxious to find something that looked appropiate, we muddled through with some street food (chickpea stew and deep fried chapati cooked in front of us) as well as some very spicy potato chips from a vendor.
We met the Group which was a full house (12) and we have 6 from Australia (all from Melbourne actually), 1 British girl, 1 French girl from Britain, 1 Irish girl, 1 French guy and a NZ couple. That afternoon we went on the metro and saw the Biggest Mosque in Delhi and then went for a walk in the area seeing several markets including the Spice Market which was so overpowering, I lasted about 3 seconds before my noise was assaulted and I had to leave. Most others last between 10-30 secs longer than me.
