Wed 5th - Khajuraho

We had a 4hr very bumpy ride between Orchha and Khajuraho, which is famous for it's 'sexy' temples. Originally founded in 1000 AD, it remained grown over and undiscovered for many years. In the early 1800's the British discovered over 25 temples still standing and created a World Heritage site and set about repairing the temples and the town. There were originally 85 temples according to our local guide.

He said that whilst Khajuraho's been put on the tourist map because of the images from the Karma Sutra, it actually accounts for less than 2% of the carvings.

It was extremely hot that day and also there were absolutely hundreds of touts trying to sell us everything from naughty playing cards with sexy images on them to calendars, little knick-knacks and everything else you can imagine. It took a lot of willpower to say no. [We did eventually buy a pack of cards].

We were also lucky enough to have dinner with a local artist and had lovely food, especially the pakora (small potato dumplings). We had a swim and then saw more dancing tonight and some of us participated again.
